Big night tonight! First training run for the New York City Marathon.

Today’s plan called for four miles at a regular pace. Headed into Central Park via the 72nd street entrance and headed north. Circled around the reservoir then raced back out to 5th Avenue, which was four miles.

It’s muggy and rainy tonight. By the time I got out the door, the sun had long since set and it was really coming down. Was completely drenched within in a minute and ditched the shirt at the halfway point. Really liberating run in an almost deserted park.

Here we go again!

Not a whit, we defy augury: there’s a special
providence in the fall of a sparrow. If it be now,
’tis not to come; if it be not to come, it will be
now; if it be not now, yet it will come: the
readiness is all: since no man has aught of what he
leaves, what is’t to leave betimes?

It’s important to listen to your body, they say. My body told me not to play soccer anymore–or at least until I’m finished up with this here marathon.

I’m hoping that last week’s misstep was just a blip on the radar because of playing soccer, because I felt a lot better this week. My times were good, my quad healed up quickly, and I was able to get back out on the road. It was actually a really good week, which was excellent for my personal confidence after such a tough go of it last week.

On a non-running note, I’ve been taking my camera out and snapping a few photos of the local area. Here’s one of Drumheller Fountain on the UW campus:
